Responsible party and scope
Owlytic (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for personal information it determines how and why to process. Independent sellers may also be responsible parties for buyer information they receive to fulfil orders. They must use it only for lawful order, support, accounting and compliance purposes and protect it under POPIA.
Information we process
We may process identity and account details; contact and delivery information; seller, business and bank details; listings, images and communications; cart, order, payment status, commission, refund and payout records; subscription choices and consent records; support and complaint records; and device, security, cookie and analytics data.
Payment card details are entered into the payment provider’s secure environment and are not intended to be stored by The Whereabouts.
Purposes and lawful grounds
We process information to provide accounts, listings, shopping, advertising, subscriptions, support and security; perform contracts; collect and reconcile payments; meet tax, accounting, fraud-prevention and legal obligations; pursue legitimate operational interests without overriding your rights; and send optional marketing where you consent or the law otherwise permits.
Who receives information
Information may be shared, only as reasonably needed, with the relevant seller, PayFast or another payment provider, email and messaging providers, website hosting and security providers, analytics services enabled with appropriate consent, professional advisers, regulators, law enforcement or a purchaser of the business subject to lawful safeguards. Delivery details may be shared with the seller and its courier.
International processing
Some technology providers may process information outside South Africa. We use providers and contractual or legal safeguards reasonably designed to protect information to a standard consistent with POPIA.
Retention and security
We retain information only for as long as required for the purpose, contract, accounting record, dispute, consent proof, fraud prevention or legal obligation. We apply proportionate access controls, updates, backups, encryption in transit and monitoring, but no online system can promise absolute security.
Your rights
Subject to POPIA, you may ask whether we hold your information, request access or correction, object to certain processing, withdraw consent, request deletion where lawful, or complain to the Information Regulator. Identity verification may be required before fulfilling a request.
Privacy requests may be sent to hello@owlytic.co.za. The Information Regulator can be contacted through inforegulator.org.za.
Direct marketing
Email and WhatsApp subscriptions are optional and recorded separately. You may unsubscribe through the message link or preference centre. Service messages about an account, order, payout, security or legal notice are not marketing and may still be sent where needed.
Children
The platform is not designed to collect children’s personal information without a competent person’s authorisation. Contact us if you believe a child submitted information improperly.
